Stafford Challenge Cup: FC Bengaluru beat FC Deccan by 2-0

Stafford Challenge Cup: FC Bengaluru United recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over FC Deccan to top group A with an all-win record in the Stafford Challenge Cup at the KSFA Stadium here on Wednesday. FC Bengaluru United logged nine points from three wins off the three games they played. FC Deccan lost all three that they played and ended up with a pointless campaign.

FC Bengaluru United played at a rather slow pace all along and were in no hurry to score, more so after finding the net twice early in the second half. In the 11 th minute, Aenam Graffenberg Jurwa lobbed from the left for Irfan Yadwad to head home from close quarters.

In the 17 th minute, it was 2-0 as the FCD goalkeeper committed a blunder. Receiving a back pass from Samith, he tried to dribble the ball inside the area. As it rolled loose, Irfan Yadwad slid and stretched his right foot to scramble it into the empty net.

FC Bengaluru United rarely forced the pace and indulged in passing bouts in their own half or in the vicinity of the penalty area and seemed content with the score and their own situation in the tournament as they had already qualified for the last four stage.

Late in the second half FCBU came close to getting their third goal when Nikhil Raj let fly after Louis Nickson had squared to him at the top of the box but substitute goalkeeper Chandan Krishna fisted it away to safety. FC Deccan hardly tested the FCBU goalkeeper only once in the 67 th minute when Mebantei Kupar sent Sarath Mohan through but the latter hit into goalkeeper Kabir Toufik and wasted the chance.
