Rishabh Pant scored 4000 international runs after MS Dhoni as wicket keeper

Rishabh Pant, on Wednesday, December 14, became only the second Indian wicketkeeper to score 4000 runs in international cricket. The left-hander achieved the feat on Day one of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Rishabh Pant scored 4000 international runs after MS Dhoni as wicket keeper.

MS Dhoni is the only other keeper from India to score over 4000 runs at the highest level. In 535 international matches, Dhoni scored 17092 runs at an average of 44.74 with 15 hundreds and 108 half-centuries. In 128 matches thus far, Pant has scored 4021 runs at an average of 33.78 with a top score of an unbeaten 159.

As a designated wicketkeeper of a team, however, Pant has scored 3651 runs from 109 matches with six centuries and 15 half-centuries to his name.On Wednesday, Pant scored 46 runs off 45 balls with six fours and two sixes. He was also involved in a 64-run stand for the fourth wicket along with Cheteshwar Pujara after India lost the early wickets of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in quick succession.

Pant got out while trying to take the attack to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who won the Player of the Series award after Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series 2-1.Bangladesh, captained by Shakib Al Hasan, picked three wickets in the first session and Mehidy gave the hosts a wicket early in the second session.

Pant made his debut back in 2017 and was a tad inconsistent to start with, but he has well and truly found his feet in international cricket.
