T20 great Chris Gayle has decided to opt-out of the IPL 2022 auction as it marked the end of an era as this will be the first time when the legendary West Indies batter will not be part of the tournament. West Indies player Chris Gayle holds several records in the tournament’s history including most centuries (6) and the highest individual score 175 not out.

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli had said during an interview that AB De Villiers is likely to return to RCB in some capacity. “So we stay in touch and he’s very keenly watching RCB and hopefully here next year in some capacity,” Kohli had said.

About two weeks later, AB De Villiers confirmed the news that he is indeed coming back to the IPL next year. The 38-year-old has been an iconic player for RCB over the years and was recently inducted into the franchise’s ‘Hall of Fame’ alongside West Indies legend Chris Gayle.

Speaking on VUSport’s YouTube channel, AB de Villiers said he is missing being with the RCB and would love to be back in his second home. “I’m glad to hear Virat has confirmed it. To be honest, we haven’t decided on anything yet. I will definitely be around IPL next year. I am not sure in what capacity but I am missing getting back there,” De Villiers said.

“I have heard a little bird tweeting, saying that there might be some games in Bangalore. So I would love to return to my second hometown and watch the full capacity stadium there at the Chinnaswamy again. I would love to return, I am looking forward to it.”

The 37-year-old had amassed 313 runs at an average of 31.30 in 15 matches he played for RCB in the IPL 2021 campaign. Having scored 5,162 runs in 184 matches, ABD remains sixth in the list of all-time run-scorers in IPL history. His strike-rate of 151.68 remains the best among top 20 run-getters in the T20 competition.
