IPL 2024: CSK Former captain MS Dhoni Retire

The announcement came as a shock to CSK fans as the IPL franchise has won five IPL titles under Dhoni’s leadership and earned him the title of ‘Thalaiva’ (for Tamil captain).

Born in 1997, Ruthuraj Gaikwad made his debut in the IPL format in 2020 and quickly made a strong impact. He was retained by CSK for 6 crores in the 2022 edition.

Dhoni is the most successful IPL captain with 133 wins and Rohit Sharma is at 87. Gaikwad, who has played six ODIs and 19 T20s for India, made his debut for CSK in 2020 and has represented the five-time IPL champions in 52 matches. The stylish opener had a memorable run last year, amassing 590 runs in 16 matches at an impressive strike rate of 147.50.

According to reports, Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni is likely to announce his retirement after the 17th edition of IPL. MS Dhoni officially announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020.
But he continues to play in the IPL. A big indication that this could be Dhoni’s last season came when CSK decided to hand over the captaincy to young opening batsman Rituraj Gaikwad on the eve of the IPL 2024 opening match between the five-time champions CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. “There are speculations that MS Dhoni will retire at the end of the season and hence the franchise felt the need for a smooth transition in his presence as a player.
