Ravindra Jadeja will break World Cup winning Captain Kapil Dev record

Team India’s next assignment after the WTC 2023 Final is an all-format tour of the West Indies. India will play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20I matches in West Indies and USA. India vs West Indies 2023 series will start on 12th July 2023 and end on 13th August. Ravindra Jadeja will break world Cup winning Captain Kapil Dev record.

While batters will hope to score heaps of runs against a weaker team in the West Indies, the bowlers too will be eager to do well, especially Jadeja, who is nearing a big record. Jadeja, who has played 29 matches against the West Indies has 41 wickets to his name when the two teams have met in ODIs.

Ravindra Jadeja is joint-third highest wicket-taker in India-West Indies ODIs, on level with legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Jadeja needs one wicket to surpass Kumble on the list but the top two are not far.

Jadeja needs three more wickets to overtake Kapil Dev (43) to become the highest Indian wicket-taker in India-West Indies ODIs and if he takes four wickets, he will become the leading wicket-taker in IND-WI ODIs surpassing West Indies legend Cortney Walsh (44).

Most wickets in India-West Indies ODIs:

44 – Courtney Walsh (West Indies) in 38 matches

43 – Kapil Dev (India) in 42 matches

41 – Anil Kumble (India) in 26 matches

41 – Ravindra Jadeja (India) in 29 matches

37 – Mohammed Shami (India) in 18 matches

The two Tests will be part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle. India last toured West Indies in 2022, winning the T20 series by 4-1 and the ODI series by 3-0. India last played a Test in West Indies in 2019.

There are 3 newcomers in the India’s Test squad – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar, while long time No. 3 Pujara has been dropped. Pace bowler Shami is rested and Navdeep Saini comes in place of Umesh Yadav.

Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad and uncapped Mukesh Kumar are part of the 17-man ODI squad led by Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya. Jadeja and Axar are the two spin-bowling all rounders, while Chahal and Kuldeep are the two frontline spinners.

The series will also mark a much-needed ODI practice for the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav – players who are certain to feature in the playing XI.
