MI vs KKR IPL 2023: Suryakumar Yadav captain, Arjun Tendulkar debut

Mumbai Indians (MI) won the toss and invited Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to bat in the IPL 2023 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. MI vs KKR IPL 2023: Suryakumar Yadav captain, Arjun Tendulkar debut. Arjun Tendulkar, son of former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, will make his IPL (Indian Premier League) debut against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Arjun was first bought by Mumbai Indians at the IPL 2021 auction for Rs. 20 lakh and went for Rs. 30 lakh in 2022, with Gujarat Titans being the only other team making a bid for him. The 23-year-old was retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the mini-auction in December last year.

Suryakumar Yadav will lead the unit as Rohit Sharma is kept as an Impact Substitute. Mumbai Indians have also handed a debut to Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun. After an underwhelming start to the season MI will hope to bring their campaign on track. The team endured back-to-back defeats before clinching a final ball thriller against Delhi Capitals to open their account in the tournament.

They will now look to build on it and give fans a treat but standing in front of them is a confident KKR unit. KKR have produced some solid show with the bat and will hope for a repeat against the five-time champions.

The 22-year-old was named in the starting XI of the five-time champions as the hosts rung in a few changes for this fixture. Tendulkar, who switched states from Mumbai to Goa ahead of the 2022 domestic season, has played in 9 T20 matches in his career so far and picked up 12 wickets at an economy rate of 6.60.

At the 2022 IPL mega auctions, Tendulkar was bought by Mumbai Indians for a sum of Rs 30 lakh. In addition to Tendulkar’s debut, it was a debut for Surya Kumar Yadav as captain of the Mumbai Indians after Rohit Sharma opted not to play in the match due to a stomach bug. He was, however, part of the substitutes list.
