Lucknow and Ahmedabad have officially joined the Indian Premier League. The new Lucknow IPL group was purchased by RPSG Group for Rs. 7,090 crores. In IPL 2022 the Ahmedabad group was purchased by CVC Capital Partners for Rs. 5,625 cr. Having refused the captaincy retention at Punjab Kings, KL Rahul would go into the pre-auction retention of new teams as the hottest player to watch out for. Such is the stardom of KL Rahul at the moment that he can demand any salary. But the question remains, what salary will KL Rahul accept to get retained?

It is also important to understand why KL Rahul refused to play for Punjab Kings. While salary may be a part of the issue, the main issue seems to be around the team culture. It seems as if KL Rahul wasn’t given enough freedom to drive the team strategies and decision-making. This could be the main trigger point for new teams to negotiate on.

KL Rahul is one of the favourites to take over as the captain of the Lucknow IPL 2022 team and is reportedly in negotiations with the franchise after leaving Punjab Kings. Rahul has been reportedly offered a staggering deal of Rs 20 crore (INR 200 million) per year to join the Lucknow team ahead of the new season.

One of the best Indian batters in the IPL 2022 over the last few years, Rahul led Punjab for two seasons in 2020 and 2021. While he was consistent with the bat on the personal front, Rahul failed to inspire his side to playoffs in both seasons. Nonetheless, he has been one of the best batters in the league for the last few years and is a great captaincy prospect for both the new teams.

Rashid Khan is expected to be one name with many reports pouring. Undoubtedly the best spinner in the world at the moment, Rashid Khan would be the second hottest property for the new franchisees and in the auction. With SRH, Rashid Khan had a hard time negotiating the salary.

Rashid wanted to be retained as the first-choice player for INR 14 Cr, but with Kane given that option, Rashid Khan refused to accept a salary of INR 10 Cr. To be honest, Rashid can get retained for INR 15 Cr or not get retained at all. If Rashid is given 15 Cr, both the new teams may be devoid of other options. If Rashid is offered 11 Cr, he may not accept at all. However, Rashid may want the new teams to match the salary of INR 14 Cr to accept the retention. If not, Rashid may go into the auction pool to try his fate.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have not retained Yuzvendra Chahal for the next edition of IPL. This is a big development as Yuzvendra Chahal has been RCB’s premier spinner for many years. With many reports, it is known that Lucknow franchise have made a offer to Chahar to join.

However, Chahal made a rollicking comeback in the second leg of IPL 2021. He picked wickets consistently for RCB and was also quite economical. Overall, he played 15 matches and picked 18 wickets at an average of 20.77.

Despite that, RCB have decided to release him ahead of the mega auctions.Yuzvendra Chahal began his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians. MI bought Chahal in the 2011 edition of the tournament but didn’t play a single game for three seasons.

To recap about the rules, the new teams are allowed to retain a maximum of 3 players with a maximum of 2 Indians and a maximum of 1 overseas player. The salary bifurcation for the players shall be INR 15 Cr, INR 11 Cr, and INR 7 Cr respectively. However, players may get a chance to negotiate a higher salary.
