KL Rahul Shreyas Iyer race to join Team India: both future will decided today

The Indian cricket team is returning home after the shock of the T20 series defeat in the West Indies tour. Meanwhile, the Indian team for Asia Cup 2023 is likely to be announced today. Apart from this, the fate of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who are fighting to return to the team, will also be decided today.

Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have started practice. Both are seen taking batting practice at NCA on Monday. The Ajit Agarkar led selection committee is expected to announce the Asia Cup squad today or this week. All the players will converge at the NCA on August 23 for a players’ camp before leaving for Sri Lanka at the end of August.

Thus, there is a possibility that Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will conduct a fitness test today. Both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are taking batting practice together. However, to be fully fit to play international matches, but must pass this fitness test. Rahul is India’s backup wicket keeper in ODIs. Shreyas Iyer has to play and secure his place in the Asia Cup.

With this, the two are waiting to secure their spot for the World Cup. KL Rahul suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2023, which required him to undergo surgery. On the other hand, Iyer was suffering from back pain. Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit and has been selected for the series against Ireland.

The much awaited Asia Cup 2023 tournament will start from August 30. This year’s Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. In the first match of this tournament, the hosts Pakistan and Nepal teams will face each other.

Team India will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Pakistan on September 2. This match will be played in Kandy, Sri Lanka. What is special is that all the matches of India will be played in Sri Lanka and the rest of the teams will arrive in Lanka for these matches.
