KL Rahul New Test Captain for Team India

Virat Kohli has stepped down as the Test captain after the series defeat against South Africa. Kohli took to Twitter to make the mega announcement. He had taken over the job in 2014. The question arises as to who will be the next Test captain. After lots of talks are rife that KL Rahul will be the next Test captain after Virat Kohli resigns.

Virat Kohli wrote on Twitter, “It’s been 7 years of hard work, toil and relentless perseverance every day to take the team in the right direction. I’ve done the job with absolute honesty and left nothing out there. Everything has to come to a halt at some stage and for me as Test Captain of India, it’s now. There have been many ups and also some downs along the journey, but never has there been a lack of effort or lack of belief.

I have always believed in giving my 120 percent in everything I do, and if I can’t do that, I know it’s not the right thing to do. KL Rahul set to be the new Test captain of the Indian team. Virat Kohli has announced that he is stepping down from Test captaincy of the Indian team after the recently-concluded South Africa series.

He has also stepped down as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after IPL 2021. Overall, Virat captained India in 68 Tests, winning as many as 40. Dhoni had captained India in 60 Tests and won 27, while Sourav Ganguly captained India in 49 Tests and won 21. KL Rahul was in charge of the India team in the Johannesburg Test against South Africa. Kohli did not play in the match due to back pain.

Kohli also praised KL Rahul’s captaincy in the loss. Kohli had earlier decided to resign, thus praising KL Rahul’s captaincy. On the other hand, giving Rohit Sharma three forms of leadership can complicate his career. Given the current level of cricket, it is very difficult for any player to hand over all three forms of leadership.

Rohit Sharma will be 35 years old after 3 months if the age gap is taken into account. Meanwhile, KL Rahul is 29 years old. KL Rahul is also performing well in Test cricket. Thus, a player who can handle the Test team for the next 4-5 years is more likely to lead. As such, KL Rahul’s name is at the forefront. In such a situation, KL Rahul is sure to be the next Test captain.
