IPL 2022 new format with 10 teams in 2 groups: Check Complete schedule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, February 25 announced that the IPL 2022 with 10 teams will get underway on March 26 and the final will be played on May 29. The 2022 Indian Premier League will see a tweak in format as 10 teams will be divided into groups of five but the number of matches per side will remain 14. The IPL Governing Council at its meeting held yesterday made the following key decisions regarding the TATA IPL 2022 Season. A total of 70 league matches will be played across four international standard venues in Mumbai and Pune.

The venue for the playoff matches will be decided later. In IPL 2022 match will play in 4 different ground Mumbai – Wankhede Stadium        20 Matches, Mumbai – Brabourne Stadium (CCI) 15 Matches, Mumbai – DY Patil Stadium 20 Matches, Pune – MCA International Stadium 15 Matches. The decision to play the matches in a single hub (the Mumbai-Pune corridor) has been taken to avoid air travel in a bid to avoid the risk of Covid-19 infection.

All teams will play 4 matches each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium. 3 matches each at Brabourne Stadium (CCI) and MCA International Stadium, Pune. The 10 teams will play a total of 14 league matches (7 home matches and 7 away matches) totalling to 70 league matches, followed by the 4 playoff matches. Each team will play 5 teams twice and the remaining 4 teams only once (2 only home and 2 only away).

To decide on the above, teams have been assigned in two virtual groups based on the number of IPL Championships won followed by the number of Final matches played by the respective teams. Each team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the second group. With the rest of the teams in the second group they will play only once during the season.

Group A will have Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians. The group B will have Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

Team-wise Fixture for IPL 2022

MI will play

KKR, RR, DC, LSG and CSK twice. They will play GT, PBKS, RCB and SRH once

CSK will play

SRH, RCB, PBKS, GT and MI* twice. They will play KKR, RR, DC and LSG once.

KKR will play

MI, RR, DC, LSG and SRH twice. They will play CSK, RCB, PBKS and GT once.

SRH will play

CSK, RCB, PBKS, GT and KKR twice. They will play MI, RR, DC and LSG once

RR will play

MI, KKR, DC, LSG and RCB twice. They wll play CSK, SRH, PBKS and GT once.

RCB will play

CSK, SRH, PBKS, GT and RR twice. They will play MI, KKR, DC and LSG once.

DC will play
