IPL 2020 KKR vs KXIP : Mandeep, Gayle fifties guide KXIP to 8-wicket win

A hundred-run partnership between Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle guided Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to an 8-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 46th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match in Sharjah.

In pursuit of a 150-run target, KXIP lost KL Rahul (28) in the 8th over. Chris Gayle stepped in to amplify the run-chase, scoring 51 off 29 balls including 5 sixes. Mandeep was the top-scorer with unbeaten 66 runs off 56 deliveries. Earlier, Mohammed Shami turned out to be the wrecker-in-cheif as Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) restricted Kolkata Knight Riders to 149 for 9.

The KXIP speedster returned with figures of 3/35, removing Rahul Tripathi (7), Dinesh Karthik (0) and KKR’s top-scorer Shubman Gill (57). Chris Jordan (2/25) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/20) picked 2 wickets apiece while Murugan Ashwin (1/27) and Glenn Maxwell (1/21) settled with a wicket each.

KKR were put to bat first after losing the toss. They had a horrible start, losing 3 wickets in the first two overs. Gill and Morgan led the counter attack, adding 81 runs to the fourth wicket. But Bishnoi removed the Morgan (40) in the 10th overs after which the KKR innings started falling apart. KXIP won the toss and opted to field first against.

Both teams are played the same team. With this win and a better Net Run Rate, Kings XI Punjab have now dethroned Kolkata Knight Riders from the fourth spot on the points table.
