BCCI appoint KL Rahul as Captain for Team India

IND vs BAN 1st Test begins on December 14 (Sunday). The venue of the clash is Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. The IND vs BAN 2nd Test starts on December 22 (Thursday). BCCI appoint KL Rahul as Captain for Team India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named KL Rahul as India’s captain for the first Test against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma has been ruled out after his thumb during the second ODI. His availability for the second and final Test is still uncertain.

Rahul led the Indian team in the third ODI, which the visitors won by 227 runs. While Ishan Kishan scored 210 off 131 balls, Virat Kohli amassed 113 runs off 91 balls. KL registered scores of 73, 14 and 8 in the three matches during the one-day series against Bangladesh that India lost by 1-2.

The World Test Championship Final is six months away and India are still some way off confirming their place. Last edition’s beaten finalists are currently third with six games to set up a summit clash at the Oval starting on June 4.

The Bangladesh series thus becomes crucial, with a Rohit Sharma-less India needing to win at all costs. An Injury-struck India will hope to keep their chances of making the World test championship finals alive in Bangladesh.

The Indian team led by KL Rahul, will need to blank the hosts 2-0 to put themselves in command in the points table. Currently, India are fourth in the WTC standings with a PCT of 52.08, behind SriLanka. Australia and SouthAfrica are some way ahead at 72.72 and 60.
