ICC replaces ‘batsman’ to ‘batters’ from after T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Thursday that batsmen will be used instead of batsmen in the T20 World Cup starting next month. In September, the Marylebone Cricket Club announced that the word ‘batsman’ would be replaced with ‘batters’ in the Laws of Cricket.

This change will now be visible in all ICC games going forward. The ICC said that in the last four years the use of the word batsman has decreased. Commentaries and broadcasters also use the term batters more often now.

ICC Acting CEO Geoff Allardyce said that we welcome the MCC’s decision to add batters to the Laws of the Game. Allardyce said in a statement, “The term batters has been used in channels and commentary for some time now and we welcome the MCC’s decision to introduce it into the Laws of Cricket.” It is a small change, but it will have a significant impact on cricket as it will be seen as a more special sport.
