CWG 2022 : Another hat-trick of gold medals for India from wrestling

Indian wrestlers dominated the 9th day of the 2022 Commonwealth Games here on Saturday. Ravikumar Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat and Naveen bagged gold medals in separate categories. On the eighth day, Friday too, India’s Bajrang Poonia, Sakshi Malik and Deepak Poonia brought India a hat-trick of gold medals from the wrestling category. Ravikumar Dahiya won the gold medal in the final of the 57kg category against ABK Wenimo Welson of Nigeria. This was followed by Vinesh Phogat who bagged the gold medal in women’s 54 kg freestyle. This made it the third gold medal for Vinesh Phogat at the Commonwealth Games.

In the men’s 74kg category, India’s Naveen clinched the gold medal with a 9-0 win over Pakistan’s Muhammad Sharif. Naveen won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Earlier, Pooja Gehlot won the women’s 50K.He won the bronze medal in the G category. After her, Pooja Siag also settled for a bronze medal in the women’s 76 kg category. Then in men’s 97 kg category, Deepak Nehra beat Pakistan’s Tayyab Raza to win the bronze medal.

Two silvers in athletics: Two Indian athletes bagged silver medals on Saturday, the 9th day of the Games. Pyanka Goswami has bagged a silver medal in the women’s 10,000m race walk. On the other hand, India’s Avinash Sablee won the silver medal in the 3000m Steeplechase category.

Three bronzes in boxing: Two bronzes came to India from the boxing category on Saturday. Jasmine Lamboria bagged a bronze medal in women’s 60 kg lightweight. Mohammad Husamuddin won bronze in men’s 57 kg featherweight category. On the other hand, Rohit Tokus bagged bronze in men’s 67 kg welterweight category.
