BCCI select RCB top player for India vs New Zealand ODI series

The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand will start on Wednesday, January 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. BCCI select RCB top player for India vs New Zealand ODI series. Royal Challengers Bangalore player Rajat Patidar enter team.

But the star batsman will miss the series. He is expected to be fit for the India vs New Zealand T20I series. The BCCI has roped in RCB top player Rajat Patidar as Iyer’s replacement. Patidar was part of the ODI series against South Africa and Bangladesh last year. But he is yet to make his ODI debut.

“Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury. He will be heading to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further assessment and management. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Rajat Patidar as replacement for Shreyas Iyer,” a BCCI statement read.

The right-handed batsman plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. Iyer being ruled out of the ODI series opens the door for Suryakumar Yadav to return to the playing XI after being kept out for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka which India won 3-0.

And with no Rahul, Iyer, or Axar in the middle order, India might give chances to Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Washington Sundar. On the other hand, it will be interesting to know whether Patidar will make the playing XI or not. The ODI series will conclude on Tuesday, January 24. Then both teams will lock horns in three T20Is starting on January 27.
