The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the full list if 590 cricketers who will go under the hammer during the two-day mega-auction for the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League which will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13, 2022.

Ahead of the tournament, the old 8 franchises were asked to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squads. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders retained 4 players in their squads.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad retained 3 players each. Punjab Kings went ahead with only 2 retentions. After the retentions process, the two new franchises were asked to pick three draft players from the pool of released players. Both the teams have completed this process.

As of now, 33 players are already part of the 10 franchises. IPL 2022 is expected to begin in March this year. March 27 is the tentative date for the opening game. Reports suggest that BCCI has finalized Mumbai and Pune as the venue for the tournament. However, a final decision will be taken next month on February 20 taking note of the COVID situation in Mumbai.

Moreover, BCCI has kept South Africa as a viable option to conduct the tournament. Among the 590 players registered for the auction, 228 are capped international cricketers, 355 are uncapped and 7 belong to Associate Nations. Out of those 590, 370 are Indians and the remaining 270 are overseas players. And these 590 players will hope to bag a deal as 10 IPL franchises – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Team Ahmedabad – will place their bids over the two days to rope in some of the biggest cricketing names.
