Karnataka New CM: Finally reveal the reason why DK Shivakumar accepting DCM post

For five days, DK Shivakumar held his ground, refusing to back down. In front of an opponent with considerable heft and a pan-Karnataka appeal, he argued his case passionately, both in Bengaluru and Delhi. Karnataka New CM: Finally reveal the reason why DK Shivakumar accepting DCM.

The Congress top brass has chosen Siddaraiamah for the Chief Minister post, with Mr Shivakumar as his deputy. The deal was clinched after Sonia Gandhi spoke to Mr Shivakumar – who had been firm on his demand for the Chief Minister post – late last evening to resolve the deadlock.

Sources close to Mr Shivakumar said he decided to make the “sacrifice” and agreed to be Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka in the interest of the party.  “We left it to the high command, they decide. It is the party’s interest over personal interest. I have to accept the high command’s decision,” Mr Shivakumar later told media.

“It is a verdict. Lot of us will be arguing in court. Ultimately, what judge said, has to be accepted,” he said. The Congress had been struggling to get Mr Shivakumar on board with the idea of a second term for Mr Siddaramaiah in the top post, who reportedly has the support of most MLAs.

Both Mr Siddaramaiah and Mr Shivakumar had met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Party General Secretary KC Venugopal yesterday – presenting their cases as contenders for the Chief Minister post.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Thursday invited Chief Minister-designate Siddaramaiah to take oath on Saturday. DK Shivakumar will also take oath along with team members.
