The counting of votes to Karnataka Assembly elections is start. Votes for the Karnataka assembly polls are being counted today, with a fierce fight expected between archrivals BJP and the Congress. Election Results Udupi District: BJP 3, Congress 2 Lead.

As per present report BJP lead in Kundapura, Karkala, Udupi and Byndoor and Kapu Congress lead. The electoral fortunes of top leaders– Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of the BJP, Congress heavyweights Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar and JD(S)’ HD Kumaraswamy, among many others will be known today.

In the 224-seat Karnataka assembly, a party needs to win 113 seats to form the government. Of the total 224 seats, 36 seats are reserved for scheduled castes and 15 for scheduled tribes.

Most exit polls have given an edge to the Congress over the ruling BJP, while also indicating the possibility of a hung Assembly in the state. The JD(S) is expecting for a hung verdict, which would enable it to play a role in government formation.

The final picture should be in by noon.  Karnataka sends nearly 28 members to the Lok Sabha, second only to Tamil Nadu at 39. A setback here will be costly for the BJP especially in the run-up to the general elections next year.

Ahead of counting on the 224-member assembly in Karnataka, JD(S)leader HD Kumaraswamy has said that exit polls have shown that BJP and Congress will get big numbers. He said his party is a small one and there’s no need for him.

He said that the picture will be clear in the next 2-3 hours. The fight in Karnataka is majorly seen between the ruling BJP and Congress while JD(S) could be the kingmaker, in case there’s a hung assembly.
