Finance Minister , during Budget 2024, announced a rooftop solar power scheme where 1 crore households will get up to 300 units of free electricity every month. On February 13, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced via his official handle on X, the launch of PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

PM Modi also posted “In order to further sustainable development and people’s wellbeing, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project, with an investment of over Rs. 75,000 crores, aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month.”

This project, with an investment of Rs 75,000 crore, aims to light up 1 crore homes by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month,” said the Prime Minister. From substantial subsidies directly into people’s bank accounts to heavily discounted bank loans, the central government will ensure that no cost is burdened on the people, he said.

Narendra Modi said that in order to popularize this project at the grassroots level, urban local bodies and panchayats should be encouraged to promote rooftop solar systems in their jurisdictions.
