IMD Issued Heavy Rainfall Alert In these states till July 17

After grappling with incessant downpours and heavy waterlogging for a week, Mumbaikars once again woke up to heavy rain. Incessant rains led to severe flooding in several areas including Turbhe Mafco, Navi Mumbai and APMC Market in Kings Circle. India Meteorological Department (IMD) Issued Heavy Rainfall Alert In these states till July 17.

City officials have also issued a ‘high tide’ warning, forecasting a surge of 3.87 meters. Besides the urban flooding, the previous day’s heavy rains disrupted the Mumbai-Agra highway near Kasar Ghat in Igatpuri. Vehicular traffic was temporarily affected as rocks fell on the road from the mountain.

The highway police quickly noticed the fallen rocks and cordoned off one lane for commuters traveling from Nashik to Mumbai and opened another to avoid a complete disruption. An earth mover was quickly deployed to clear the debris, without any damage to vehicles or injuries.

Unfortunately, the city may not get a break from the rain anytime soon, and neighboring areas are also likely to be affected. A cyclonic storm over North Central Maharashtra and a coastal trough along the South Gujarat to North Kerala coast is expected to bring further widespread heavy rain, thunder and lightning over regions including Konkan-Goa, Central Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka during the next five days.

Accordingly, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning (meaning ‘take action’) over Gujarat, Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra on July 13-14 and over the coast and southern hinterland on July 14-15.
