IMD issued heavy Rainfall alert in these states next 2 days

Northeast India with copious amounts of showers this entire week. And now, new predictions indicate that similar conditions are likely to continue over the other states for the next five days at least. India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy Rainfall alert in these states next 2 days. The Himalayan foothills have placed a firm grip over the eastern arm of the monsoon trough, while a low-pressure area is currently brewing over the Bay of Bengal.

These systems will be instrumental in holding the inclement weather over the northeastern states this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). IMD issued heavy Rainfall with lightning-laden thunderstorms will engulf Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from Friday to Monday (August 5-8) and Assam and Meghalaya from Friday to Tuesday (August 5-9).

In addition, heavy downpours (64.5 mm-115.5 mm) may also lash isolated parts of these states during this forecast period, the IMD predicts. While these aren’t the worst conditions the Northeast band has had to face this week, the IMD still advises caution and has the states fluctuating between a yellow watch (meaning ‘be updated’) and no warnings till Tuesday.

Despite the torrential rains that claimed over 150 lives in this northeastern region just last month, the overall rainfall performance through this year’s monsoon season has been mediocre. Between June 1 and August 4, Assam and Meghalaya have been the only states to register above-average rainfall (1199 mm accumulated, marking a 10% excess over the normal of 1088 mm).
