Heavy Rainfall in Karnataka: Red alert declared in 16 districts for 3 days

According to the Meteorological Department, rain will fall in the state for three more days, after which rainfall  will subside.Coastal and Malnad  districts will receive widespread rain for the next three days, while moderate rain will fall in other parts. “Already, the monsoon is falls a bit. In the next 2 to 3 days, there will be widespread rain in coastal and Malnad  areas, and in the next day, Monsoon will move towards North India and the amount of rain will decrease in the state. As it is the Red alert declared, there is a possibility that the rains that are low will start again after a few days,” says a senior official of the Meteorological Department.Heavy Rainfall in Karnataka: Red alert declared in 16 districts for 3 days

Heavy rainfall in 16 districts today

A red alert has been declared in coastal Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and Malnad districts like Chikmagalur, Kodagu and Shimoga on Sunday. Orange alert has been issued for Hassan, Yadagiri, Kalaburagi, Bidar districts and Yellow alert for Belgaum, Raichur, Vijayapur, Chamarajanagar, Davangere and Mysore districts.

Kodagu, continued rainfall on the coastal.Mansoon intensified further in Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday, red alert was announced on August 7, followed by orange alert for four days. The cold weather continues as there is wind along with the rain. The temperature has already dropped by 6 degrees Celsius. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea as the sea is rough and windy. Rain is likely to continue till August 13. After this the rain will decrease slowly.

Heavy rainfall  continued throughout Madikeri district on Saturday. Roads and bridges have been disconnected in many places and rural areas are struggling without electricity. Care centers have been opened in some places as a precautionary measure.

A care center has been opened at Tomara School under Kedamullaur Grama and accommodation has been provided to 41 people from 15 families. Necessary facilities are provided to the people. In 2019, the villagers of Tora, who were affected by a landslide, have been given shelter here.

The villages of Kodagu like Chembu, Sampaje, Madenadu and other parts of Dakshina Kannada district which are on the border are affected by landslides and floods and torrential rains have disrupted the life of the people here. Locals are struggling without mobile network in most of the villages including Dabadka, Urubailu. Electricity connection has also been cut in some places.
