Raichur: As the first Zika virus was detected in the state, the children’s hospitals in the district are overflowing; parents who are naturally worried because of the detection of the virus are bringing their children to the hospital. Meanwhile, the Health Department has collected the samples of 57 pregnant women and sent them for testing. Just last week, for the first time in the state, a 5-year-old girl was infected with the Zika virus in the test. Following this, the Health Department has released guidelines to take necessary precautionary measures.

Due to winter cyclone effect, fever, cough and cold are appearing in children. Meanwhile, Zika virus infection has been detected in the district. In this background, parents are heading to the hospital with their children suffering from common ailments.

Talking to media about this, a parent said that after the Zika virus was detected in the district, he was scared and came to the hospital. On the other hand, the health department, which has been on alert following the Zika virus outbreak, has conducted a survey around the chicken camp in Manvi taluk of the Raichur district. They are also opening and checking fever clinics.

Pregnant women are being given high priority during checkups especially in fever clinics. In view of the fact that pregnant women are mostly infected with the Zika virus, they are conducting survey and inspection work and have collected the samples of more than 57 pregnant women and sent them for testing.

Door to door survey work

Asha workers and government hospital staff nurses are conducting house to house survey and distributing condoms as a precautionary measure. If the Zika virus appears in pregnant and lactating women, they are giving information to take more precautions because there is a possibility of disability in the children born. Also, they are giving information to have safe sex.

Last week, the Zika virus was detected in a five-year-old child at a chicken camp in Manvi taluk Raichur distrct. Although the child has recovered, adequate precautions have been taken to prevent the infection from spreading to others. But the District Collector said that there is no information about the health workers distributing condoms.
