Weather Report: Extremely heavy rainfall in these states today

India Meteorological Department has forecasted in Goa heavy monsoon rains for today and the state Education Department has also announced a one-day holiday for schools. Weather Report: Extremely heavy rainfall in these states today.

“In view of the incessant rain and alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department’s Goa center predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall…. it is decided by the competent authority to declare holiday on 6th July 2023 from Std I to XII,” a circular issued by Director of Education Shailesh Sinai Zingade said.

A red alert has been issued for Raigad district of Maharashtra for today i.e. on 6 July, warning of excessive rainfall, officials. Speaking of monsoon in Raigad, the district has recorded 70 percent of the average rainfall for June at 459 mm. At 708.4 mm.

The district recorded 22.5 per cent of the average annual rainfall (3,148 mm) so far in July. In Kerala, IMD has issued an orange alert for six districts today. As per IMD, an orange alert of heavy to very heavy monsoon rains is likely to occur in Idukki, Malapurram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragode today.

Earlier on Wednesday, heavy rains uprooted huge trees in several parts of the state, leading to houses and vehicles being damaged, power lines being brought down and traffic movement being blocked for hours due to the fallen trees. In Punjab and Haryana, many areas were lashed by the monsoon rains on Wednesday, according to the weather department.

In Punjab, Ludhiana received 103 mm of rain, Ferozepur 40.5 mm, Gurdaspur 33.5, Patiala 21 mm, Amritsar 17 mm and Pathankot 9.2 mm, according to a weather report. In Haryana, Hisar received 9 mm of rainfall, Ambala 8 mm, Sirsa 2 mm and Karnal 1 mm, the weather department’s report stated.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states received 20.3 mm of rainfall. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Konkan and Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat state during next four days. Isolated extremely heavy falls also likely over Konkan and Goa on 06th July; ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 6th July; over Gujarat region on 7th July and Saurashtra & Kutch on 7th and 8th July.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over the region during next four days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh on 09th July.
