School college holiday declared in Udupi tomorrow due to heavy rain

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a red, orange and yellow alert for various parts of Karnataka, forecasting more torrential rainfall in the next 24 hours. School college holiday is declared in Udupi tomorrow (July 6) due to heavy rain.

As a precautionary measure Udupi District Collector Kurma Rao announced all schools and colleges holiday for tomorrow (July 6). The IMD have predicted light to moderate intensity rainfall in South India during the next 5 days while heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the next 5 days.

The IMD has issued a “red alert” for three districts of coastal Karnataka which include Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada, predicting “isolated- extremely heavy rainfall”.

The weather department also advised fishermen not to move out into the Arabian Sea, saying that stormy weather with wind speeds gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail over the Karnataka coast during the next 24 hours.

The IMD has also issued an “orange alert” for several districts of Karnataka, including Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Raichur, Bengaluru Rural, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Mysuru and Tumkuru districts, predicting “isolated- very heavy rains”.
