A crocodile named ‘Babiya’ of the Ananta Padmanabha temple in Kasargod, bordering Karnataka, has left this world. The untimely death of the crocodile, which was the focal point of the temple’s devotees for many years, has brought pain in the devotee circle. Kerala Ananta Padmanabha Temple’s “Babiya” is No More.
In Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple of Kumbale in Kasaragodu district of Mangaluru border, there was a herbivorous crocodile known as Babiya. It was believed that this crocodile (Babiya crocodile) was in the temple lake for the last 70 years. Babiya lived in Kalyani of Kumbale Ananta Padmanabha Temple, the original home of Ananthapadmanabha Swami in Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Ananta Padmanabha Temple’s “Babiya” is No More.
Babia crocodile’s last rites will be performed in the temple premises. The crocodile, which used to receive offerings twice daily after daily worship, was known as God’s crocodile. Babiya, who came out of the water two years ago and entered the temple, came to the temple premises for the first time, much to the surprise of the devotees.
Ananthapura temple is one of the famous places in Tulunadu, located in the middle of a lake in the vast area of Ananthapura in Kumbale district of Kerala. It is also known as Anantapura by the people of Sarovar Kshetra. Here there is an idol of Anantapadmanabha Swami sitting on a 5-headed serpent. Another feature of this field was the crocodile called Babiya in the lake.
Although the crocodile is a carnivore, the babi here is a herbivore. Earlier, when the British camped at this place, they plotted to kill a crocodile in the lake. When Babiya was called, the crocodile came out. Then they shot and killed the crocodile. It is said that the British officer who killed the crocodile was bitten by a poisonous snake and died a few days later.

As a surprise, another crocodile appears in that lake. The priest there is called by the name Babiya. The crocodile is called Babia at the time of offering the offering to the crocodile every afternoon before Mahapuja. Then this crocodile came out of the tunnel and accepted the offering. Here is the custom of offering offerings to the crocodile in the form of haraka. Although the crocodile is a carnivore, this Babia does not bother anyone. This crocodile did not eat the fish in the lake. But now Babiya has left this world.
