Chaturdashi Tithi starts on March 8 at 09:57 PM

Chaturdashi Tithi ends on March 9 at 06:17 PM.

Nishita Kala Puja will be on March 9 from 2:07 am to 12:56 pm

Shivratri Parana time is from 06:37 am to 03:29 am

Mahashivaratri 2024 Importance:

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva is believed to have married Goddess Parvati on this night. This day is celebrated as ‘Shiva Night’ in celebration of their divine union. Lord Shiva stands for Purusha, which is Consciousness, while Maa Parvati stands for Prakriti. This union of consciousness and energy promotes creation.

Mahashivaratri 2024 Puja Rites:

Mahashivratri 2024 Fasting Rules:

Many devotees of Lord Shiva fast on Mahashivaratri. While some devotees choose to fast without food and water, others include foods such as potatoes, makhanas, bananas and pumpkins in their diet. People who wish to observe fast on Mahashivaratri should avoid wheat, rice, salt, certain vegetables, pulses and other foods. Apart from this, non-vegetarian food, as well as onion and garlic should also be strictly avoided.

Mahashivratri 2024 Things you can offer to Lord Shiva:

Bella patra, dhatura flower, curd, ghee, sandalwood can be offered to Shiva. Additionally, sweets made from milk and its derivatives like Burfi, Peda and Payasam/Kheer can also be offered to the Almighty on this day. Devotees should not use kumkum tilak during this pooja and sandalwood paste should be preferred.
