Instagram adds comment editing feature with 15 minute window for users

Instagram has introduced a new update allowing users to edit their comments within 15 minutes of posting offering flexibility to correct mistakes while keeping transparency through an edit label system

Instagram has started rolling out a much requested feature that gives users the ability to edit their comments after posting them. This update is aimed at making conversations smoother and more forgiving, especially in situations where users make typing errors or want to quickly refine what they have written.

The feature works with a clear time restriction. Users will have a 15 minute window after posting a comment to make any changes. Within this period, they can edit their comment multiple times if needed. However, once the 15 minutes are over, the option to modify the comment will no longer be available.

While the update improves flexibility, Instagram has also ensured transparency. Any edited comment will carry a small label indicating that it has been modified. This helps other users understand that changes were made, even though the previous version of the comment will not be visible. Only the updated version will appear publicly after editing.

It is also important to note that the feature is limited to text based comments. If a user has included media such as GIFs or other attachments, those elements cannot be edited through this tool. The update focuses purely on correcting or refining written content.

The introduction of this feature brings Instagram in line with several other social platforms that already allow comment editing. Many users had long been waiting for such an option, as it helps reduce the need to delete and repost comments just to fix minor mistakes.

To use the feature, users simply need to go to the post where they commented and locate their comment in the section below. By tapping or long pressing the comment, an option menu appears where the edit function can be selected. After making the necessary changes, users can save the updated comment by confirming it with the done or check option.

With this rollout, Instagram is gradually improving user control over interactions, making conversations more flexible while still maintaining accountability through visible edit indicators.
