Heavy Rain Alert till July 29 in Karnataka Coastal districts

Heavy rain has been falling since the beginning of the week in many districts including the coast of Karnataka, as a precautionary measure, four days holiday has been announced for school and college children respectively. Coastal districts of the state like Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts will receive heavy rainfall till July 29 and red alert has been announced. Heavy rain is pouring in Sulya, Puttur, Belthangadi and Bantwala taluks of Dakshina Kannada district. Houses collapsed in many places, trees were uprooted and losses worth millions were caused.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rains in the coastal Karnataka region and issued a red alert till Thursday morning. The Meteorological Department has also issued Orange Alert and Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall in three districts namely Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada.

The Meteorological Department has issued orange alert for Belagavi, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu and yellow alert for Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Vijayapur, Yadgiri, Hassan and Shimoga till Thursday morning. Wind speed of 55 kmph will prevail over Karnataka coast on July 26-27 and 40-45 kmph over North Karnataka coast on July 28. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
