Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tokyo today (Tuesday) to attend the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Prime Minister Modi along with several global leaders will pay homage to Shinzo Abe. Representatives from more than 100 countries, including leaders of more than 20 countries, are expected to attend Shinzo Abe’s funeral today. “I have landed in Tokyo,” tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Tokyo. He will attend the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today. Modi will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan.

PM Modi had tweeted yesterday, “Tonight I am traveling to Tokyo to attend the last rites of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a dear friend and great champion of India-Japan friendship. “I am going to meet Japanese Prime Minister Kishida and Mrs. Abe to express my condolences on behalf of all Indians,” he said.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who served as the Prime Minister of Japan for a long time, was shot dead by an assailant during an election campaign in the western region of the country on July 8. Japanese Prime Minister Kishida visited India last March and Prime Minister Modi visited Japan in May to attend the Quad meeting. Leaders of more than 20 countries will attend Shinzo Abe’s funeral. Thus Prime Minister Modi has also gone to Japan.
