Delhi Police have identified the man who urinated on a woman passenger on board an Air India international flight. A case has been lodged and efforts are on to nab him. According to sources, the accused, Shekhar Mishra, is 40-45 years of age and a resident of Mumbai. Multiple police teams have been formed to locate and arrest him. A case has been lodged under sections 354 (sexual harassment), 294 (obscene act in public), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman), 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person) of the IPC.
A spokesperson for the Delhi Police said, “The accused is a resident of Mumbai, but his possible location is in some other state and the police team has reached there. We will arrest the accused at the earliest.”
An inebriated man allegedly urinated on his female co-passenger, a senior citizen in her seventies, in the business class of an Air India New York-Delhi flight on November 26 last year.
The matter came to light when the female passenger wrote to Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekharan expressing her disappointment by stating that the cabin crew were highly insensitive towards the situation. They simply gave her a pair of pyjamas and slippers to change into. They apparently took no action against the culprit.
An Air India spokesperson said the airline has taken a “very serious view of the incident, where a passenger behaved in an unacceptable and undignified manner on the New York-Delhi flight that caused extreme distress to a fellow passenger.”
The airline has imposed a 30-day travel ban on the man over urinating on a fellow passenger while in a drunken state. An internal probe has been initiated to find if there were lapses in handling the situation by the crew.
