Ahmedabad Air Crash: Co-pilot Clive Kunder native Mangalore
Ahmedabad Air Crash: Mangalore’s Clive Kunder, the co-pilot of the Air India in flight that crashed today at Ahmedabad which was bound to fly to London Clive based in Mumbai has his roots from Mangalore.
Clive, who had clocked 1,100 hours of flying experience, was assisting Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a Line Training Captain with over 8,200 flying hours. The two were at the controls when the aircraft, carrying 232 passengers including two infants and 12 crew members, went down approximately five minutes into the flight.

Captain Sumeet Sabharwal was one of Air India’s most seasoned Boeing 787 commanders. With years of long-haul flying experience, he had operated numerous international sectors and was regarded as a calm, methodical, and safety-first pilot.
His 8,200 hours of flight time made him well-equipped to handle both routine and high-pressure situations. Described by colleagues as “disciplined and precise,” Captain Sumeet was known for his adherence to protocol and his composed demeanor in the cockpit. Assisting him in the cockpit was First Officer Clive Kundar, who had logged 1,100 hours of flight experience.
Both pilots were trained to handle long-haul international operations and emergencies. Air India’s owners Tata Group has now announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of each passenger who has lost their life in the deadly plane crash.
This comes after an Air India flight crashed on June 12 afternoon near Ahmedabad airport, moments after taking off for London. Tata Group took to social media to post the update about the compensation to families. The post reads, “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171.
No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.” “Tata Group will provide Rs 1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy.
We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel. We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time,” the post continues.
