Delhi: Many services provided by the transport department can now be availed easily from the comfort of homes. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a new notification in this regard. According to this new notification, 58 civic services related to driving license, conductor license, vehicle registration, permit, transfer of ownership etc. can be availed completely online. These rules have relaxed the necessity for people to visit the transport department offices.
The Transport Department has issued a notification in this regard on September 16. Till now 18 civic services were provided online by the transport department. Now the number of these services will increase to 58. Aadhaar authentication is mandatory for all these services. People can avail these services without the need of any intermediaries.
Learner License (LL), Duplicate Driving License, Driving License Renewal can be applied online. Apart from this many services like international driving license, change of address in conductor license, application for transfer of ownership of motor vehicle can be availed through Aadhaar authentication.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is taking several reform measures to facilitate the provision of transport related services. These measures will help save citizens’ time and reduce the burden of waiting by providing contactless, faceless transport services. Due to these reforms, the congestion in the RTO offices is likely to be significantly reduced. It will lead to greater efficiency in the functioning of the department, the ministry said.

According to CMVR 1989, any person who does not have an Aadhaar number has to prove their identity by physically submitting an alternate document with the respective authority. Then they can get such service in physical form.
