42 people died after drinking illegal liquor ; 2,500 people arrested in 48 hours

Gujarat police have arrested 2,500 people this week after 42 people died after drinking spurious liquor in Ahmedabad and Botad districts. A senior state police officer said that illegal liquor worth around Rs 1.5 crore has been seized. 42 people died after drinking illegal liquor; 2,500 people arrested in 48 hours.

A state-wide campaign was launched to enforce the ban and 198 cases were registered for sale of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). In the last 48 hours, 191 accused have been arrested.  Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Narasimha Komar said that 3,971 cases were registered for domestically produced liquor and 2,405 accused were arrested.

Meanwhile, the hooch tragedy came to light when some people living in Rojid village of Botad were referred to government hospitals in Barwala area and Botad towns early on Monday.
