121 children’s test corona positive: media bulletin released

Tamil Nadu: Data released by the Tamil Nadu Health Department shows that 121 children below the age of 12 have tested positive for Covid-19 in the state to date. The media bulletin released by the health department on Tuesday shows 121 new cases, raising the state’s tally to 2,058.

Of the 2,058 positive cases, 1,392 are male and 666 are female patients. Chennai reported 103 new cases over the last 24 hours, taking the city’s tally to 673. As of April 29, 1,168 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the state of Tamil Nadu. Out of these, 27 were discharged in the last 24 hours. The state also witnessed one coronavirus-related death between Monday night and Tuesday evening, raising the Covid-19 death toll in Tamil Nadu to 25.

The state government has divided the districts into colour-coded zones (green, orange and red) on the basis of the severity of cases. Unfortunately, the state only has one district, Krishnagiri, in the green zone where authorities have reported no new cases in the last 28 days. Meanwhile, there are seven districts in the orange zone with less than 15 active cases and the remaining 29 districts fall under the red zone since more than 15 cases have been reported from these districts and the doubling time of the spread of infection is less than four days here.

The media bulletin further stated, “Till date, 1,01,874 samples have been taken and sent for testing. The tests are done in 30 government and 11 private labs all over Tamil Nadu. 2,058 persons have tested positive to date. 97,908 samples were tested negative.

Testing of 1,908 samples is under process. 8,685 samples are repeat samples. 1,138 Covid-19 positive patients have been discharged following treatment till today. Hence, 902 active cases are under treatment as on April 29 Noon.”
