Orange Alert Issued for Three Karnataka Districts as Monsoon Intensifies Across the State
Monsoon activity is expected to strengthen further with heavy rain forecast for coastal and Malnad regions while strong winds and widespread showers are likely across several Karnataka districts tomorrow.
The southwest monsoon has regained momentum across Karnataka, bringing widespread rainfall to several regions and prompting the weather department to issue an Orange Alert for three districts. Heavy rain is expected to continue in parts of the state tomorrow, particularly along the coast and in the Malnad region, while many interior districts are also likely to experience showers accompanied by gusty winds.
According to the latest forecast, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts in the coastal belt, along with Chikkamagaluru in the Malnad region, have been placed under an Orange Alert due to the possibility of intense rainfall. Dakshina Kannada is also expected to receive significant rainfall, although it has not been included in the Orange Alert list.
The India Meteorological Department has also predicted strong winds across several districts in North Interior Karnataka. Bagalkot, Bidar, Gadag, Dharwad, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir are likely to witness rainfall along with wind speeds of around 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
Rainfall activity is expected to spread across many parts of South Interior Karnataka as well. Moderate showers are likely in Shivamogga, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Kolar, Kodagu, Mysuru, Ramanagara and Tumakuru. Weather officials have advised residents in these areas to stay updated with local forecasts as conditions may change quickly.
Among all locations in the state, Honavar in Uttara Kannada district recorded the highest rainfall during the latest observation period. Nagarabastikeri in Honavar received 102 millimetres of rain, making it the wettest place in Karnataka.
Several other locations also recorded substantial rainfall. Devachalla in Sullia and Neere in Karkala each received 99 millimetres of rain. Agumbe in Thirthahalli recorded 81 millimetres, while Kigga in Sringeri received 52 millimetres. Hogadahalli in Sakleshpur registered 44 millimetres, and Birunani in Virajpet recorded 43 millimetres.
With the monsoon becoming more active, authorities are closely monitoring weather conditions across the state. Residents in districts expected to receive heavy rain have been advised to remain cautious, especially in low lying areas, near rivers and streams, and while travelling during periods of intense rainfall and strong winds.
