Mangaluru Girl Suicide Case Raises Questions Over Parental Responsibility Says Commissioner
Fresh findings in the Mangaluru girl suicide case reveal alleged abuse, drug linked associations, and concerns over parental awareness, prompting police to stress accountability alongside the ongoing criminal investigation.

The investigation into the suicide of a teenage girl in the Surathkal police station limits has uncovered several significant details, according to Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy. While assuring that the accused would be identified and arrested, he said the incident also highlighted the importance of parental responsibility.
Speaking at an International Day Against Drug Abuse event in the city on Thursday, the Commissioner said the girl had been associated with a music group. During the investigation, police found that some members of the group were allegedly involved in drug abuse, and criminal cases had already been registered against a few of them.
Police suspect that the girl was sexually assaulted by an individual connected to the group, which reportedly resulted in her becoming pregnant. The emotional and personal trauma is believed to have eventually led to her taking the extreme step.
The Commissioner stated that investigators found indications that the girl’s parents were aware of certain developments in her life but did not intervene or closely monitor the situation. He noted that questions should have been raised when she regularly returned home late, adding that timely attention from family members might have helped prevent the situation from worsening.
He emphasized that the police department is committed to tracing the accused and ensuring strict legal action. At the same time, he said the case serves as a reminder that families also play a vital role in protecting children by staying aware of their activities and responding promptly to warning signs.
