IMD predicts light rain in coastal and interior Karnataka districts

Bengaluru,  : With temperatures rising across many parts of Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department has predicted light rainfall in several districts of the state between March 16 and March 18.

According to the weekly weather outlook issued by IMD, dry conditions are expected to prevail in most districts until March 14 across coastal Karnataka, north interior Karnataka and south interior Karnataka.

In coastal regions including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, the weather is expected to remain dry initially. However, from Sunday onwards, light rain may occur at one or two locations in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

In the south interior region, light showers are likely in districts such as Kodagu, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Mysuru.

Meanwhile, dry conditions may persist in districts including Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara during the early part of the forecast period.

From March 17, weather conditions may change slightly with light rainfall predicted in some northern interior districts. IMD has indicated possible light rain at isolated places in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Gadag, Dharwad and Vijayapura.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder is also likely at isolated places in southern districts such as Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu and Chamarajanagar.

For Bengaluru city and surrounding areas, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates a mainly clear sky with daytime temperatures reaching around 34°C and night temperatures dropping to about 20°C.

Weather experts attribute the changes to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep and a trough extending from Lakshadweep across north Kerala and interior Karnataka up to Marathwada. Another circulation over the Gulf of Mannar is also influencing regional weather conditions.
