Govt failed to pay salaries to employees, alleges B Y Vijayendra

Bengaluru : Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra has alleged that the state government has failed to pay salaries to a majority of its employees even by April 22, blaming the Congress government’s economic mismanagement and administrative failure.
In a post on X, Vijayendra claimed that nearly five lakh government employees in the state have not received their salaries this month. He described the situation as a reflection of poor financial planning, corruption, and mal administration in governance under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
“The Congress government’s misrule and failure of economic policies have pushed government employees into distress. It is shocking that even after three weeks into the month, salaries have not been credited,” he said.
Vijayendra further alleged that the state treasury has been strained due to diversion of funds toward welfare schemes and political considerations. Referring to the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, he said the government had prioritised disbursal of funds to beneficiaries towards the end of March, allegedly due to electoral compulsions in regions like Bagalkot and Davanagere.
“Because funds were exhausted on welfare disbursements, the government is now struggling to pay its own employees,” he claimed.
He also criticised the state leadership, accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar of being preoccupied with internal power struggles, cabinet reshuffle talks, and political positioning rather than governance.
“These internal conflicts have a direct impact on the administration and ultimately on the people of Karnataka,” Vijayendra said.
Raising concerns over the broader situation, he pointed out that the state is already facing severe summer conditions, water scarcity, and drought-like situations in several districts. In such circumstances, he said, failure to pay salaries only adds to the hardship of families dependent on government income.
He questioned the government’s fiscal discipline and priorities, stating that an administration unable to pay salaries on time cannot effectively address larger issues facing the state.
“As an opposition party, BJP will continue to hold the government accountable. We are committed to launching protests and ensuring that people struggling for basic needs like drinking water receive support,” he added.
The state government is yet to respond officially to these allegations. However, the issue is expected to escalate political tensions between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP in the coming days.
