A job opportunity with the Indian Air Force allegedly turned into a robbery for a 25 year old Bengaluru resident after a man posing as a senior Air Force officer took his gold chain and disappeared.
The incident was reported in the Gangammanagudi area, where the victim, identified as Sujan R K from Pattegar Palya, approached a man known as Rao Pawar after being told about a possible vacancy in the Indian Air Force.
According to the complaint, the accused introduced himself as a senior Air Force officer and convinced Sujan that he could help him secure a job. The victim reportedly contacted him after receiving information about the alleged opportunity through a relative.
The accused first collected documents required for what he described as the recruitment process. He later asked Sujan to meet him near Shettihalli Cross and close to a Canara Bank branch in the Gangammanagudi area.
The situation changed when the accused allegedly told the young man that jewellery and metal objects were not permitted inside an Air Force campus. He reportedly claimed that the gold chain would have to be kept in a bank locker for security reasons.
Trusting the explanation, Sujan allegedly removed the gold chain from his neck and handed it over to the man. The accused reportedly assured him that the jewellery could be collected after the interview process was completed.
Instead, the man allegedly asked Sujan to bring a photocopy of his Aadhaar card. Once the victim left to get the document, the accused reportedly used the opportunity to leave the area with the gold chain.
When Sujan returned with the photocopy, he could no longer find the man. Attempts to contact him also failed after the accuseds mobile phone was reportedly switched off.
Realising that he had been deceived, Sujan approached the Gangammanagudi police and filed a complaint. Police have registered a case under Section 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the alleged cheating.
Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the locations where the victim met the accused. The footage could help police identify the person and establish the route he took after allegedly taking the jewellery.
The incident has also highlighted the risks involved when strangers offer jobs by claiming to represent government or defence organisations. Genuine recruitment processes generally follow official procedures, making it important for job seekers to verify vacancies and recruitment communications through authorised channels.
Police are continuing their investigation to trace the accused and recover the stolen jewellery. Further details are expected once investigators establish the identity of the person who allegedly posed as an Air Force officer.
