BJP Alleges ₹48 Crore Irregularity in CA Site Allotment to Congress
Bengaluru: A political storm has erupted after the BJP accused the Karnataka government of diverting civic amenity (CA) sites to the Congress party at throwaway prices.
The controversy has now reached the national capital, with BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia launching a sharp attack on the state administration led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Bhatia alleged that 24 CA sites reserved for public use have been transferred to the Congress Bhavan Trust. He claimed the properties, valued at approximately Rs 50 crore, were allotted for just Rs 2 crore, resulting in a purported loss of ₹48 crore to the public exchequer.
Calling it a “clear case of corruption,” he questioned the rationale behind the move and asked whether the Congress was planning to build 100 party offices across Karnataka using public land.
He further criticized the Congress, alleging that the party places its internal interests above citizens’ welfare and accused it of attempting to consolidate assets without paying market value.
Bhatia asked whether the Chief Minister had legal sanction to convert civic land into party property without adequate compensation.
The issue was earlier raised in Bengaluru by Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, who claimed to possess documentary evidence of land allotments to Congress offices at various administrative levels.
He accused the government of neglecting housing needs of the poor while facilitating land transfers for party infrastructure. Responding strongly, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar countered that the BJP had no moral ground to question the Congress.
He alleged that during the BJP regime, large tracts of land were allotted to RSS offices and educational institutions, including Chanakya University, at heavily discounted rates. According to him, land in Bengaluru valued at Rs 10 crore per acre had been granted for as little as Rs 50 lakh per acre.
Shivakumar maintained that all allocations under the present government were made in accordance with established guidelines. He challenged the BJP to seek legal recourse if it believed there had been any irregularities.
