Derogatory post on late actor Puneeth Rajkumar, Bangalore Police arrested boy

Bengaluru City Police’s Cyber Crime Wing on Monday, November 1, arrested a boy for sharing an offensive post against late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, who recently passed away after suffering a heart attack.

The boy allegedly had shared an offensive post on his Instagram handle with a beer bottle. As soon as the post went viral on different social media platforms, an individual who is associated with one of the political parties managed to draw the attention of the Bengaluru City Police by tagging them on a tweet that had the screenshot of the above-mentioned post.

While people of the state were grieving the sudden death of the actor, who died of a massive heart attack on Friday morning, the youth who has a profile by name ‘Ritvikks’ on Instagram had uploaded a set of posts that were insulting in nature. In the photos the youth uploaded, the accused and his friend were seen holding a beer bottle and the text on the photo hurt the feelings of the people.

The post was circulated on social media, where netizens had tagged the Bengaluru City Police and city Police Commissioner Kamal Pant. Acting swiftly on the post, the cybercrime police traced the accused and arrested him. Pant, on Monday night, said “the accused has been arrested and further legal action is being taken”.

Sandalwood powerstar Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar breathed his last at a Vikram hospital in Bengaluru on Friday 29 October. Actor suffered a heart attack on Friday (October 29) and was admitted to Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru.

Puneeth is 46 years old. He is the son of legendary actor Rajkumar and Parvathamma. He has acted as a hero in over 29 Kannada films. He started his career as a child artist and even won National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in Bettada Hoovu in 1985. He won the Karnataka State Award for Best Child Artist for his performances in Chalisuva Modagalu and Yeradu Nakshatragalu.

Puneeth became a hero in 2002’s Appu, after which his fans fondly called him Appu. Some of his famous films include Abhi, Veera Kannadiga, Ajay, Arasu, Raam, Hudugaru, Anjani Putra, among others. He was last seen in Yuvarathnaa, which released early this year.

Puneeth Rajkumar who attended the pre-release event of Bhajarangi-2 was expected to watch the same movie yesterday. Puneeth, who was last seen on the silver screen in the movie Yuvarathnaa, was shooting for the action-packed movie James.
