The Government of Andhra Pradesh has made an important announcement that all government schools in Andhra Pradesh will have two semester system from next academic year. Semester system in all school from next year: government big announcement.

The state government has issued an order to implement the two-semester system from the next academic year from 2023 in all government schools from class 1 to class 9. And class 10 from 2024-25. As per the government order, the new system is part of the steps being taken by the state government for effective implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.

The move also coincides with the government’s switch to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus. The CBSE syllabus was introduced for class 8 from the academic year 2022-23. It has been informed that it will be extended to class 9 and class 10 in the next two years.

Two semesters in respect of Class 1 to Class 9 from 2023-24 academic year and Class 10 from 2024-25 to all Regional Joint Directors of School Education, District Education Officers, Integrated Punishment Additional Project Coordinators and Principals of DIET (District Education and Training Institute) in the State has been informed that the procedure will be followed.

The NEP 2020 suggests moving towards a semester system or any other system that allows for the inclusion of fewer modules or courses taught on alternate days to accommodate more subjects and enable greater flexibility. The policy also suggests a semester or modular board exam system, each testing less material as a way of reducing stress and training culture.

Andhra Pradesh State Council of Educational Research and Training has developed textbooks for classes 1 to class 5 in bilingual format with quarter system from the academic year 2020-21. According to the Deccan Chronicle, the textbooks for classes 6 and 7 have been developed from the academic year 2021-22 and 2022-23 respectively on a two-semester system.
