School Summer Holiday 2024: Government gives good news to Students
After discussing with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and getting approval to continue mid-day meal in the afternoon even during the summer vacation, he said that the order will be issued.
School Summer Holiday 2024: Karnataka School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa said that in view of the drought situation, consideration has been given to continue mid-day meal in government schools even during the summer vacation.
After discussing with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and getting approval to continue mid-day meal in the afternoon even during the summer vacation, he said that the order will be issued.
Earlier, eggs were given once a week to school children till class 8, after our government came, eggs were given twice a week and this was extended till class 10. Minister Madhu Bangarappa said that the department is also focusing on providing nutritious food to the children along with quality education.
A mid-day meal is a school lunch provided to children in government and government-aided schools in India as a part of the PM-POSHAN (Poshan Shakti Nirman) initiative (formerly the Mid-Day Meal Scheme) to improve their nutritional levels and support their education.
In November 2001, the Supreme Court of India passed a mandate stating, “We direct the state governments/union territories to implement the Mid-Day Meal Scheme by providing every child in every government and government-assisted primary school with a prepared midday meal.”

The provision of mid-day meals in India has helped in:
Increasing enrolment in schools
Increasing attendance
Mitigating classroom hunger
Helping students concentrate in the classroom
Reducing the drop-out rate among students
Addressing the issue of malnutrition among children
Empowering women through employment
Improving socialisation among children.
