Major changes in Karnataka SSLC and PUC Exam

The state government is bringing a major change in the education department. The system of calling SSLC and PUC as Class 10 and Class 12 will also be implemented in the state. It is planned to conduct the unified examination on the central higher education model. Major changes in Karnataka SSLC and PUC Exam.

The Karnataka Secondary Education Act-1966 was amended in the recently concluded monsoon assembly session by the government. The bill to merge the Board of Secondary Education and PU has been passed in the Legislative Assembly and has been renamed as Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board KSEAB and published in the State Gazette.

Karnataka Board of Secondary Education and department of pre-university examination have been merged to create a single examination board called ‘Karnataka School Examination and Evaluation Board’, the government has published the official gazette.

Hence SSLC and PUC exams will be held under the same board from 2022-23. The Karnataka Board of School Examination and Evaluation will distribute the mark sheets of Class 10 and Class 12 on the CBSE model instead of SSLC and PUC to the candidates appearing for the examination in the year 2023-24.

From 2022-23, SSLC and PU exams will be held under one board. An IAS rank officer is appointed as the Chairman of the Board. There will be one Director and Secretary each not below the rank of Joint Director from the Public Education Department and the PU Department. There will be separate director, vice president for SSLC and other exams and PU exams.

The respective Director of Examinations (Secretary) has been given special powers including preparation of question papers, distribution, confidentiality. Neither board members nor other officials are allowed to interfere in this matter. Commissioner of Public Education Department and Director of Pre-University Education Department are special invitees of the Board.
