KEA Important Update: BE, Medical seat allotment together

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has decided to conduct the seat allotment process for admission to medical, engineering and other professional courses in one time from the current year (2023-24). KEA Important Update: BE, Medical seat allotment together.

Till now the seat allotment process was done directly. Executive Director of the Authority S. Ramya said. Combined Seat Allotment process is conducted for admission to Medical, Dental, Engineering, Veterinary, Agriculture, Nursing, Architect and Pharmacy courses. She explained that this is the first time that this is being done.

Due to the separate seat allotment process there were many disadvantages. If a candidate gets a seat in more than one course at a time, then the seat in the remaining courses will not be available to other candidates until he gets admission in any one of them. She said that because of this, the talented people would have lost their seats in the selection round.

He informed that if the candidates want admission to any courses; check the fee and available seats according to the seat matrix, then enter the option of seats according to their preference. A candidate should first enrol his/her preferred courses while making option entry.

If the first preferred course is not available then the next preferred course should be recorded as the second preferred course. For example, a candidate whose first preference is a medical course, in case that is not available, should record his preference as engineering. Then when a medical seat is not available then the seat will be allotted in engineering which is the next priority.

Similarly, according to the seat matrix, as many courses as there are, one can get a seat by making an option entry for the courses as per preference, she explained. First round seat allotment is done on the basis of candidate’s merit, reservation and option entry. Some candidates may get seats in both medical and engineering courses. Such candidates have to select one of the two (Medical or Engineering) at the Choice Entry screen.

Then pay the fee through challan and get the admission order online and report to the concerned college. After that it should be updated on the college portal without fail. If this is not done, there is a risk that the seat will be considered vacant and it will be used for the next round of allotment.

In the second round of seat allotment, the candidate should get a seat in any course (Medical, Engineering, Veterinary etc.) according to the option entry made. After the second round of seat allotment in medical and dental courses, it is compulsory to pay the fee for the seat allotted to them and get admission. Otherwise, the said seats should be cancelled on payment of penalty amount.

Candidate’s allotted medical seats in the second round will not be eligible to participate in mop-up round. But the candidates who got the dental seat in the second round are allowed to participate in the mop-up round of the medical course without cancelling the seat. For engineering seats one can participate up to the third round. But if the seat is allotted in the second round then payment of fee is mandatory.

In the third round of seat allotment, the option entries made in the first two rounds of candidates who have been given choice-3 and candidates who have not been allotted any seat will be deleted. The candidate has to make a fresh option entry for the third round. Candidates of all categories will have to pay a fine of five times the fee for cancelling the allotted seat in the third round. So candidates should enter the third round option carefully.

Candidates who got seats in Engineering, Nursing, Architect, Veterinary, Agriculture – in the second round can participate in mop-up round of medical and dental courses only after paying the penalty and cancelling their seats. Similarly, candidates who have been allotted medical and dental seats in the second round can participate in the engineering mop-up round after cancelling the said seats by paying the penalty.
