The holiday has only been announced for 3-day high school-colleges tomorrow in Karnataka. But from 1st to 7th, the school will run as usual. Hijab controversy broke out in the state. Students wearing saffron shawls have warned that our fight will continue if the court orders a hijab.

It is against this backdrop that the Karnataka Government has announced a three-day holiday for school and college. Speaking to media Karnataka Higher Education Minister Ashwath Narayana said that 3 days school vacancies have been announced in the wake of the uniform dispute in the state colleges.

Speaking further, Karnataka Minister Ashwath Narayana said the government had already made its decision on the hijab issue. The situation is serious, though. There is a hearing in the High Court regarding this. For the next three days, holiday has been announced to all high schools, PU colleges, degree colleges and engineering colleges across the state.

The Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow afternoon at 11am. A cabinet meeting will be held under the leadership of Karnataka CM Basavaraja Bommai, who will discuss the situation in various districts with the minister.

Some students from MGM college Udupi turned up with saffron shawls and saffron peta, and hijab. Some boys wore both saffron peta and shawls while some girls were seen wearing either saffron shawls or hijab in the premises of the two MGM colleges. Though the situation in the college campus was tense for some time in the forenoon as the students gathered inside the campus protested against each other, it eased after the college declared a holiday. The students dispersed gradually.

Congress leader DK Shivakumar issued a tweet stating, “The situation in some Karnataka educational institutions has gone so out of hand that in one case the National flag was replaced by a saffron flag. I think the affected institutions should be closed for a week to restore law and order. Teaching can continue online.”
