The new order will be applicable from the academic year 2023-24 for LKG, 2024-25 for UKG and 2025-26 for Class I. The government has issued a new order to reduce the number of children who drop out.  Last year, the Department of Public Education had issued an order to enroll only children who have completed six years compulsorily in a single class on June 1 from the academic year 2025-26.

Therefore, the age limit of four (4) years has been fixed as of June 01 to enroll in the LKG class from this academic year itself. Last year 2022, the education department had issued an order on 26th July, and henceforth, a child must be six years old as of June 1st to be admitted to the first class. The order was proposed to be implemented from the academic year 2023-24, but as parents and school management bodies raised objections, it has been announced by education news that it will be implemented from the academic year 2025-26.

As per the new rules, if you want to enroll your child in class 1 in 2025-26, you need to be careful about LKG inclusion right away. It means that by the time of 2025-26, it is mandatory for a child who joins the first class to be six years old. So, your child must have completed four years while enrolling in LKG this year. Otherwise, it will be necessary for the child to stay in LKG or UKG for more than one year, which may affect the mental condition of the child.
