Karnataka 2nd PUC Results: Student approach Supreme Court to increase total marks

Karnataka 2nd PUC Results: An 18-year-old student of Karnataka has approached the Supreme Court seeking an increase in the Karnataka 2nd PUC exam total marks from 98% to 99% (PUC marks). He has filed an application in Supreme Court for not giving 99% during revaluation. A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and Arvind Kumar sought the views of Karnataka government and state examination department officials regarding the case.

Petitioner student Devaiah had secured hundred percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Karnataka 2nd PUC Examination held in 2022. He scored 90 in English, 98 in Kannada and 99 in Biology. After checking the evaluated answer sheets, he calculated that he should have got extra one in Biology and 5.5 marks in English. He applied for revaluation for that. However, the state PUC board had initially said that there was no reason for the change in marks.

Later, the student wrote a detailed letter to the board. The PUC examination board informed the student that no change in marks could be made as the student had already applied for revaluation once. Also, it said that there should be a difference of six marks for a new change in the grade sheet.

The student had approached the High Court questioning this. At that time, the High Court had left open the question of law in the case and instructed to examine the student’s letter. The student filed an application as the authorities delayed in responding. The High Court had ordered the authorities to submit a status report related to the case. But Devaiah had filed a contempt of court case against the officials who did not follow the order and did not change his marks.

The High Court, observing that there was no provision in law to prescribe the revised marks in addition to the existing grade sheet, disposed of the petition. Therefore, the student approached the Supreme Court. Vikram Hegde, counsel for the petitioner-student, told the Supreme Court that since the cut-off marks are high in the prestigious colleges, the marks are required for admission.
