Danushka Gunathilaka suspended from Sri Lankan Team, Not Even Bail in Rape Case

Star batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, who had gone to Australia for the Sri Lankan cricket team to play the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, was arrested by Australian police on sexual assault charges. Gunathilaka was arrested early Sunday morning from Team Hotel in Sydney’s central business district.

The Lankan cricketer, who is now under arrest, is likely to be severely punished under Australian law. Dhanushka Gunathilaka, who was under arrest, was produced in the Sydney court through video conference and at this time handcuffs were put on her hand. Also, the court denied bail to Gunathilak and he faced a situation where he had to stay in jail.

Gunathilak will now approach the Supreme Court of New South Wales for bail. If Gunatilak is not granted bail, he will be in big trouble. Because according to Australian law, rapists are sentenced to life imprisonment. Gunathilak was arrested at 3.30 pm from the hotel where the Sri Lankan cricket team was staying.

At that time the entire Sri Lankan team was preparing to return home. It was reported that Dhanushka had raped a 29-year-old woman on November 2, and that Gunathilak had met the girl on October 29.This is not the first time that Dhanushka Gunathilak has been in controversy.

In 2018, Gunathilak was suspended for 6 matches for his alleged involvement in the rape of a Norwegian woman along with his boyfriend. Now after Dhanushka’s recent controversy, she has been suspended from the Sri Lankan team.
